Northwood HMD
Aims

NHMDE provides a unique opportunity for young people to meet a Holocaust survivor, hear their testimony and work in small groups with trained facilitators to explore the relationship between the past and key issues that they face today such as racism, bullying and discrimination.

The objectives are to run a series of half day sessions for secondary school students that:
  • Provide the opportunity to meet a Holocaust survivor
  • Enable students to learn basic historical facts about the Holocaust
  • Include a facilitator-led workshop, that creates an environment in which students can explore the relationship between the Holocaust and other genocides and understand how to relate this to contemporary issues such as racism, discrimination, bullying
  • Provide a structure throughout the programme for participants to commit to make a difference and bring about positive change, both as individuals and as part of a group.
  • Recognise that the programme offers a first step towards action and the students own personal commitment to "pass on" the testimony that they have heard from the Holocaust survivor to future generations.
  • Encourage participants to continue to process their thoughts and feelings after they have left the Event
